LA BOCA
It's the most picturesque quarter of Buenos Aires. It's located
on the south of San Telmo, by the mouth (LA BOCA)of Riachuelo
River, giving access to the Prata River. That's where Buenos
Aires most famous post card stands - The "Caminito", which
is a small lane full of houses wrapped by steel colourful
plates, art exhibitions, tango dancers, craftsmen, painters,
photografers and the only wax museum of the city. The "Caminito"
was created by the Italian-Argentinean painter Benito Quinquela
Martín over a small section of an old railway.
How to get there:
There is no underground line serving directly La Boca. A good
and cheap option is to take the C line up to the beautiful
"Constitución" station, have a look around and then take a
taxi.
RECOLETA
It's one of the most distinguished districts of Buenos Aires.
Its origin goes far back to the end of XIX century, when many
families left the southern part of the city, like Barracas
and San Telmo, to flee from the yellow fever plague. The district
has many palaces and buidilgs from that period, big squares,
good restaurants and traditional coffee houses with tables
on the sidewalks.
Visit:
- Alvear Square, where are:
- Recoleta Cemetery (where lies the Duarte Family grave that
keeps the mortal remains of Evita Perón);
- Nossa Sra. Do Pilar Minor Shrine;
- Buenos Aires Cultural City Center;
- Buenos Aires Design Center;
- Recoleta's Crafts Fair, over the week-ends;
- Bellas Artes Nacional Museum;
- Nacional Library.
How to get there:
Bus lines: 61, 62, 67, 92, 93, 124 e 130.
SAN TELMO
It's one of the oldest districts of Buenos Aires, where the
original harbour of the city used to be. It was seat of the
main religious orders, important residential center and historical
nucleus of the town. favourite place for antigues' collectors.
Visit:
- Dorrego Square and surroundings -full of antiquarians and
coffee houses - where, on Sundays, takes place an unlosable
antiques fair. In April, the fair happens also on Saturdays.
- Lezama Park - Place of the first foundation of the city
done by the Spanish navigator Pedro de Mendoza in 1536;
- Russian Orthodox Church;
- Modern Art Museum;
- Historical National Museum;
- Antonio Ballve Penitentiary Museum.
PALERMO
With it's many parks and wide avenues and it's one of the
most beautiful districts of Bueno Aires. Visit:
- 3 de Febrero Park (Los Bosques de Palermo), where are:
- Galileo Galilei Planetary;
- Zoo;
- Argentinean Hippodrome;
- Rosedal (Rose Garden);
- Eduardo Sivori Plastic Arts Museum;
- Japanese Garden;
- Botanic Garden.
How to get there:
The nearest underground station is "Plaza Itália" (line D),
that will leave you right in front of the Botanic Garden.
You can also take the following bus lines: 10, 34, 37, 130,
160, 161 e 166.
PUERTO MADERO
It's a bold project of reurbanization of the old Buenos Aires
docks. The restoration began in the 90's and will finish in
2005, sheltering a big gastronomic complex with bars, restaurants,
hotels, apartment buildings, museums, sport centers, cinemas,
convention centers and an ecologic reserve - The "Costanera
Sur e Norte".

CONGRESS and DE MAYO AVENUE
De Mayo Avenue links the Executive (Casa Rosada) and the Legislative
(Congress) Powers of the Argentinean Republic and it also
connects the two of its main squares: De Mayo and Congress
Square. The avenue is full of platane trees which gives it
a special look in the autumn and the spring. The journey between
"Plaza de Mayo" and "Plaza del Congresso" preserves some of
the best city attractions.
Visit:
- Perú underground station (A line) - It maintains some wooden
wagons and objects from the time of its opening (1915).
